The Resort Village of Shields is an active rural/urban community of just under 200 seasonal and permanent residents. It is governed by a Mayor, with town council, and a parks & recreation committee. Shields has a community centre, parks, ball diamonds, clubs, and lake access points. The Village has taken careful measures to preserve its appeal. For example, to maintain the lake ambience (and prevent light pollution to ensure that residents will be able to stargaze every clear night!) there are no streetlights.

Shields is located on the north end of Blackstrap Lake, which offers something for everyone of every age and lifestyle:

Golf Sunterra Ridge is set overlooking Shields’ 9 hole grass green course. For the avid golfer, Saskatchewan’s top ranked course, Dakota Dunes is only 20 minutes away.

Fine Dining   The Hole in the Wall Restaurant offers mouth watering Canadian continental cuisine with Peruvian overtones. A restaurant whose reputation for fine dining has gained legendary status. Plan to spend the evening – then walk home right across the road!

Biking   The provincial park across the lake has great biking trailsincluding downhill on Mount Blackstrap, for those who like a little more adventure!

Fishing   Excellent for fishing, the lake is full of northern pike, perch, whitefish, and pickerel. Enjoy fishing from your boat in the summer, or ice fishing in the warmth of your hut in the winter. For the sport fisherman, fishing derbies provide an extra challenge.

Boating   All types of watercraft are allowed on Lake Blackstrap. The lake is home to the Blackstrap Sailing Club which hosts many regattas throughout the year, welcomes new members, including novices who want to learn how to sail.

Water Sports   When the wind is blowing you will see sailboats, windsurfers, and kiteboarders galore. In the calm of a hot summer day, it’s time for wakeboarding, waterskiing, and tubing! Then there are those glorious days, especially in the fall, when you would think there is nobody on the lake (and you might be right).  There is always fun to be had on the water!

Winter  Activities  There are many cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails. Advocates for the former ski hill are hoping that someday downhill skiing and snowboarding will return to Blackstrap as well.

Town of Dundurn offers many programs and services.

School  A  great place to raise children, only five minutes away, the
Dundurn Elementary School provides an exceptional education system for the early years and is known for its reading program. School bus service is also available to the Hanley Composite School (K to 12).
